Provincetown Training Camp
Submitted by JimmyB on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 20:20On Friday January 13th members of the UNH cycling team arrived on the cape of Massachusetts hoping the weekend would bring them good fortune and good weather.
The first day dawned sunny, with a high of 36 degrees and some fierce winds reaching 20-30 mph. The UNH'ers headed out to explore the cape and didn't finish until they covered 72 miles.
The next day brought snow and colder temperatures. Again, the UNH riders rolled out from Provincetown and managed to cover some serious distance. Despite some cold extremities the team enjoyed the snow day ride. Pat Galvin even went as far as to say "I don't really mind the cold, it gives me an excuse to wear my onesie!"
Our third day at camp was another sunny but cold day. We set out on the longest ride of the weekend. The destination was Chatham and we rode there and back with an almost perfect combination of rail trail and roads. In honor of MLK the team rode 88 miles together. The combined mileage for the weekend is a bit different from rider to rider but a solid base was built for everyone.
A few shout outs are in order: Greg had it on lockdown with the navigation. Our coach Tony Eberhardt came up with the idea, kept us fed and kept us all out there riding. Our freshman team mates pushed themselves long miles through cold weather and I'm proud to say they killed it. Our alumni friend only known as "the wizard" also made the trip and we were glad he was there.
Winter Update
Submitted by JimmyB on Thu, 01/12/2012 - 05:19Greetings Friends of UNH Cycling!
Friday January 13th marks Day 1 of the first annual UNH Winter training Camp in Cape Cod, MA. Ten male riders of the UNH Cycling team accompanied by Coach Tony Eberhardt will rack up the base miles along the quiet bike routes of Cape Cod. The Men of UNH Cycling are gearing up in anticipation of the Collegiate season which kicks off at Rutgers University 7 weeks from camp. With bitterly cold temperatures in the forecast, riders will be sure to bundle up with numerous layers, booties, gloves and winter caps!
On Monday January 9th, Richard Whitney(www.marinerrealty.com), Bella Olesky, and Patrick Galvin presented at the Durham, NH Town Council Meeting. The Council approved the original proposed criterium course around B lot and Parsons Hall for the ECCC Championships on April 29th, 2012! Great news! Next step: Get final permission form the University.
*More news to come about ECCC Championships
Friend of UNH Cycling Phil Kenealy placed 8th at USA Cross Nationals in his respective category, Masters 50+. Congrats "Doctor"!

ECCC Cross
Submitted by JimmyB on Mon, 12/19/2011 - 21:20December 18th marked the 2011 ECCC cyclocross championships in Fitchburg,MA and the seasons debut of the UNH squad. A hardy group of UNHers were in attendance for the 8am start, greeted by 20 degree temps and a frozen, hard course. This made the relatively non- technical course a little bit faster than usual and had the fans hopping up and down to keep warm. Taylor Smith, out of commission with a chest cold, helped out with the bike setup early and provided shelter the night before for the team. Ben Kramer, in his first ever cross race, claimed he relied on both his cross country ski conditioning and technique to get through some of the technical aspects of the course. These included a 20 foot ‘flyover’ , a crop circle and a fifty yard sand pit. Ben Levergood overcame two separate mechanical issues and finished strong prompting Richard Fries to proclaim “this tough kid from UNH will NOT quit!” Richard also gave UNH several props along with all the other schools represented at the race venue. A big thank you to Gus’ Bike shop who provided the riders with cross bikes. We are already looking forward to next season with the formation of a UNH Cyclocross team, the season beginning just after the MTB season finishes up.
